The use of video games to improve English can be positive and negative for the students; on the one hand it can improve the learning of the language and on the other, can be a waste of time or effort. Depending on the type of student is a learning tool to improve English very useful, it helps improve pronunciation and enrich vocabulary.

First, spent time playing video games is positive for the student because they can talk with others native gamers online and to learn the correct way of pronunciation, enrich their vocabulary with new words, read the instructions in English and visit game forums. Many young people know English due to the time they spend playing video games and investigating how to pass the levels, because the best online games are in the English language.

Second, some people become so addicted to play that they lose the sense of learning and even of life. for this reason, old people say that this is a waste of time for the young people and they argue that it is not the right way to improve or learn English. In addition, video games make students impatient; “New technologies make us more impatient and decrease frustration tolerance. They also relax a part of our brain that has to be worked”, said Alvaro Bilbao, neuropsychologist.

Finally, correctly use video games in English as a tool, is directly related to the type of student that uses it, that is, if it is a student who wants to improve their skills and learn new vocabulary, they will get the positive of video games, but if it is a student who uses video games as a means to have fun then you will get the negative of these.
